Baby Date 1-29-2007

On this evening we and three other couples ventured the snowy roads to take a tour of the St. Joseph Family Birthing Center. It is exactly a seven minute drive from our house, and now that we know exactly where to go, park, and enter (and in any urgency of the moment) I am sure it will take much less time with David at the wheel. The lobby is very nice with a waterfall and a clean elegance of soft corners and wood grains. A nurse met us and told us exactly what what we could expect in terms of what would be going on during the delivery. The labor and delivery rooms are very nice and well equipped with lots of options for any type of birth that one may desire. They really seem to encourage interaction with the new life by allowing nearly continuous time with the baby from birth until you go home (48hours for a safe, normal birth). On the tour we did get to hear one woman actually in labor, (a little reality check) but the halls were amazingly calm and quiet. The mother/baby rooms that you stay in after the labor and recovery were a bit smaller- they called call them "efficient". All in all, the time was well spent. It was just nice to be out with one another thinking about baby stuff and getting ready. You too can take a little virtual tour by visiting http://www.sjmercyhealth.org/body.cfm?id=268 Well, it's 8 weeks and counting....are we there yet???

He leadeth me beside the still waters...

Hills Take Two: Jaron added another hill in front of the first to add some more depth and perspective and a little pond at the bottom for the sheep to drink at. I pieced together a couple of snaps to get a better view here. You can see the tree space holder on the right. He's got some more detail to do on the front hill and is planning to start the tree this week! Tatou came in the room on Thursday when he was done working and was looking all around at the hill and ceiling. Maybe she can hang out in here and quit whining to go outside!

The Hills are Alive...

Green waves of grass have begun growing on our little hill. We've even got some dandylion fields and rays of sun peeking out from behind the cloud. You can see the sun shining down and casting highlights on the bright side of the hill, the other side will be in the shadow. Though you cant see the rest of the room the hill continues around the room, lower in most other sections. Stay tuned for further details!

We've Got 'Heavenly Clouds'

Jaron began the painting after a great deal of supertaping and now we have clouds in the sky! He calls them 'heavenly clouds' as opposed to 'Hansel and Gretel' clouds. I much prefer heavenly :). You can see the outline of the hill and where the tree will eventually go as well.

The Nursery "Before"

Today we met with JaRon Johnson, a friend of our neighbor who is going to be painting the nursery for us! David and I are both very excited. It's a major step in making baby's nursery a bit more homey. Last weekend over Christmas, Brian and David moved the other furniture into the nursery and after a week of rearranging everything around we finally decided how everything fits best (the bassinette is taking the place of the changing table for now). Here are a few pics of the nursery in the "before." We'll update during the painting process.
