6 Months SnapPack

Some recent pics of Alexander at/near 6 months old. At his appointment yesterday he weighed 15lbs and is 27 1/2 inches long!

Our computer crashed and we lost nearly 2 months of photos! (not to mention countless other documents, video files, programs, etc...) Please pray for us, that the computer geeks can retrieve our data from the drive!!! We had a few still on the camera and we've uploaded some of these to Flickr for safe keeping. You can click on the little patch on the lower right of the page to see them. Most are in the slideshow above.

little 6 month delight

Alexander turned six months old last week and has been delighting us with new little tricks and treats almost every other day:

He's sitting up to play quite regularly the past couple of weeks and can almost pull himself to sitting by striking this little GQ relaxy pose- reclining on his side and elbow and flashing his little debonair smile. (we have yet to capture it perfectly on film).

He's discovered he can make the funny raspberry thing with his lips, though it's a bit more like spitting than the cute little sound mama does to make him laugh-- and it's not so fun to be the showered recipient of his little game at point-blank range.

He's almost got the crawling thing down- hand-knee-hand...splat. He goes in spurts and still seems to find it faster to scootch than go through the effort to crawl.

When he's sad, or tired- he'll scootch/crawl right over to you and snuggle in your lap or look to be picked up- priceless! Just warms Mummy's heart!

He can pull himself to standing on certain low/stable enough objects, and can hold himself standing on the ottoman- especially. The piano bench, we learned is not a good support. When he gets excited, he usually ends up bonking his head, and the ottoman is a much softer landing.

His favorite new toy is a spoon and a cereal canister- one side metal (clang clang), one side plastic (dunk dunk)- we prefer the later. Quite the little drummer he's becoming!

He is the most active, enthusiastic little bundle of joy we've ever seen in such a six month package- we just love him so very much. He has such a personality and tonight we definitely heard "mama" when he was fussy waiting for dinner! :) Mama dropped everything for hugs, snuggles, teary-eyed kisses and yes eventually... finally... food =) Simply precious, this one is!

My Buddies 'n Me

David and Alexander hang out with the Mommies at Starbucks

Alexander's smiles and enthusiasm are certainly a delight- his little joy is quite contagious, and he seems to brighten the day wherever he goes. Social skills on the other hand- those with tykes his own size- could use a bit of improvement. Alexander's been visiting with his birthday buddy- David, and little friend from church- Payton. He gets so excited to see his little friends he seems to overwhelm them with his giggles, grabbing, flapping, and ferocious teeth (yes, he has two of them!). He came scooting after little David with arms outstretched and open mouth- David must have thought he was going to be lunch! He got back at him by stealing Alexander's binky. But Alexander's a quick learner. When Payton tried the same, he chomped down and rolled to the right for a quick getaway. It's been fun to watch them interact together. Alex does eventually calm down enough to get in some good conversation, shake hands and make-up. It will be fun to watch them grow up together.

It's a race to the book!

Carrots!

"Yummmm... I love carrots!" Said Alexander to Mama and Papa after his first bite of the squash-tasting puree. (Yes we had to try it too, right after a healthy portion of Dutch Apple Desert.) In spite of the fact that carrots probably stain, Alexander still found himself orange-faced at the end of his meal. "At least it's better than that cereal stuff." He concluded. 'What comes next? Can I have a cookie?"

This One Belongs to God

Place My words on your hearts. Get them deep inside you. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder. Teach them to your children.
Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street;
talk about them from the time you get up in the morning until you fall into bed at night.
Deuteronomy 11: 18-19 (The Message)

August 18 was a very special day for our family. Not only was it little Alexander's five month birthday, but even more so it was the day he was returned to God. His baby dedication service was simple and beautiful, and really meant a great deal to us as we wanted it to be meaningful, purposeful even: A day to dedicate his small life- from the very start- as one to glorify his Creator, through every step he will ever take. Time is short. In his lifetime he won't have time for some of the 'detours' that most of us have made the mistake of taking.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12

It was also a time to solicit prayers and the support of our church family both for Alexander and his walk with the Lord, but also for us, his parents- for wisdom, for patience, for perseverance, to hold us accountable to this most noble task (and gift) that God has so richly blessed us with.

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it.
Proverbs 22:6

Alexander's bedtime song "Come to the Cradle" (by Michael Card) was played as the family made their way to the front of the church- Grandma and Grandpa, Great Grandma, and Nana all came for the special day. Nana had written a beautiful poem (click here to read it) that God might be glorified in this new little life. Grandpa read the scripture reading, and Pastor Benson shared some words of encouragement with us, and prayed for little Alexander, for us, for our church family.

It was potluck week too, and we wanted to dress things up a little bit. As you know, Alexander's 'theme' has been "Little Lamb of God" / "The Lord is My Shepherd" so Serena made some little candle holders for the tables, and Nana put together some simple little daisy arrangements. Instead of a cake, David stayed up wee hours Thursday night making these adorable little sheep cupcakes. It was a joyful time to celebrate this little lamb indeed that God has called us to care for Him- A day to fellowship with those closest to us, and with our Good Shepherd, who will walk beside us each step of this journey together.

Time with Grandma and Grandpa

We finally found a free weekend to make the trek up to Saginaw and visit Grandma and Grandpa along with his extended church family up there. He's been excited to get to know the Winkler side of his family quite a bit the past few weeks with visits for his dedication, family "rained out" picnic here in Ann Arbor, his trip up north, and Labor Day Sunday grillin' at Uncle Brian's house. (Papa gave Mama a day to herself- yea!) He's been sharing playtime, kisses, giggles, and smiles even more-so as he recognizes his loving family. From playtime with Grandpa and Great-Grandma, to devoted guardianship while his parents took a night out, his family has been a great help and joy in his life.
