Aidan tries his new violin for the first time.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

As a part of his seventh birthday, Aidan began violin lessons last April.\u00a0 He’d been wanting to learn the violin for several years.\u00a0 Since we knew a couple friends who took lessons, we had a recommendation of a great Suzuki teacher, and he’s been doing group and private lessons each week for nearly nine months now.\u00a0 We’ve certainly had a few ups and downs when it comes to practicing and putting in the work and effort that it takes to learn an instrument.\u00a0 But he’s liked it from the beginning and always been so proud to show everyone his instrument and playing- even from the first week he got it- to each new song he’s learned along the way.<\/p>\n

This holiday season, he had his debut performance at the Power Center, playing Christmas Carols and other little tunes for the Nutcracker Ballet as guests came in and purchased tickets for the show.\u00a0 He played a first few little beginner songs including Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, as well as others like Jingle Bells, French Folk Song, and as much as he could of Jolly Old Saint Nicholas.\u00a0 As the songs became more advanced, students simply stepped down from the group.\u00a0 He looked so cute up there in his concert attire- white shirt and black pants.\u00a0 The group sounded really great with the acoustics of the building and all of the ages blending together so nicely.\u00a0 We were so proud of him.\u00a0 Of course Nana and Grammy and Grampapa were there, and our wonderful family friends from church were also able to come and see Aidan’s class perform.\u00a0 Of course we showered him with parents’ pride, big smiles and lots of love.\u00a0 And afterward Alex, Aidan, Grammy, Muma, and our friends stayed for the ballet.\u00a0 We had studied Tchaikovsky and seen some of the dances on video in school last year, so they were a little acquainted with the story.\u00a0 In the end, Alex and Aidan liked their first ballet quite a bit (though thought it was a little long at the end).\u00a0 Aidan especially liked Marie\/Clara, and anytime she was not on-stage– either dancing or watching the ‘treats’– he asked when she would be back.\u00a0 It was a grand night.<\/p>\n
