Fall has really crept up on us this year. It’s first moments seemed to interrupt our summer bliss, and these later days have been accompanied with snappy temps and blustery winds and rains. But we have squeaked in a couple of our favorite stops. A Sabbath afternoon with Nana and Aunt Nancy at Hidden Lake Gardens hosted our first leaf ‘pile’ jumps and buries (along with the favorite hide and seek amongst the evergreen caves).
We took our annual fall day at Wiard’s Orchard on a steamy 80 degree day. Needless to say, it was by far the busiest year we’ve been, but thanks to RbA, we enjoyed yummy hot dogs, hamburgers and fixins for our tummy. Boys still loved the air slide, and jumperoo. We took our ride on the Fire Truck around the orchard and pumpkin patch. Alexander led us on an extended tour of the Labyrinth (only a couple of back-tracks), and got his face painted with a little giraffe. Aidan loved climbing on the ship, the castle, and of course the bright red tractor. David even had the whole day off to stay as long as we wished– or could handle the ever-extending lines. Though we avoided the cider and donuts on this stop due to Aidan’s strep-throat recovery and the family’s immune boosting power plan, I’m sure there’ll be time to find something somewhere later in the season.
And finally this week, a gloomy library day stop at Gallup Park turned into a sweatshirts-off sunshiney surprise of an afternoon. Boys stripped layers and hoods for heart-happy twists, turns and belly laughs on the tire swing, slides into crunchy leaves, and a bit of literal goose chasing.
So, with a few weeks left of a favorite time of year, we hope things brighten up for more of our favorite walks and golden hour evenings. Even with all of this year’s limbo, we certainly aren’t rushing the cold holed-up winter days just yet. I’m sure our winter splendour will be here soon enough!
This was such a great day, bringing back memories of jumping in piles of leaves when we were kids. So much fun watching the boys running thru the leaves and playing hide ‘n seek in the pine trees! Pictures give a small idea of the loads of fun we had that day!
Love the photo of the boys!
Was so great to do fall again with the boys at HLG. And Nancy finally got to see at least part of the beauty of the park. ‘Twas
